While there is no daily recommended value (DRV) for dietary fiber, the American Heart Association recommends children consume between 19 g and 31 g per day depending on age. Psyllium Seeds Several clinical trials have shown psyllium to be superior to other laxatives. A systematic review found psyllium husk to improve overall bowel regularity more effectively than lactulose. Psyllium has been found to be more effective than placebo at increasing stool output and was found to improve symptoms of occasional constipation.
