Description
What is Acute Immune Boost? Acute Immune Boost is designed for short-term use and rapid immune support, with heavy-hitting nutrients and botanical extracts to quickly bring your body systems back to optimal function. The common cold is the leading cause for missed work and school and can lead to complications such as ear infections, sinusitis, bronchitis, and pneumonia that may call for medical intervention, making early immune support a potential cost saving as well as protecting your well-being. Acute Immune Boost contains powerful doses of the top nutrients involved in positive immune function, including vitamins A, C, D, and zinc [1]. Two top immune-boosting plant extracts, elderberry and andrographis complete this potent, synergistic formula. How Does Acute Immune Boost Work? There is a range of immune-supportive nutrients in Acute Immune Boost, but probably the most famous for its immune-boosting properties is vitamin C. Vitamin C is a highly effective antioxidant that protects cells from damage by free radicals [2]. Regular supplementation of vitamin C has been associated with a reduced duration (in adults by 8%, in children by 14%), severity, and incidence (by 9% in the general population) of the common cold [1]. Impaired immune function due to inadequate zinc status may be the most common cause of secondary immunodeficiency in humans [3]. Zinc can inhibit replication of the rhinovirus (which causes the common cold) and has been demonstrated to shorten the duration of colds by approximately 33%. It is suggested that zinc supplementation is most effective when started within 24 hours of symptom onset [3]. Recent experiments have shed a brighter light on the immune-enhancing properties of vitamin D, specifically its role in innate immunity and vitamin D-dependent antimicrobial proteins that combat infections [4]. Although vitamin D can be made in the body in response to sun exposure, supplementary vitamin D may be most important during the winter months when there are fewer hours of sunlight and colder temperatures, keeping people indoors or limiting the skin’s exposure to sunlight with warm clothing when outdoors. Vitamin A is also known for its positive effects on the human immune response toward disease. Vitamin A deficiency impairs innate immunity by preventing normal regeneration of mucosal barriers damaged by infection, and by diminishing the function of immune cells such as neutrophils, macrophages, and natural killer cells [5]. N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine (NAC) has a protective effect over the strength of the immune system, especially in the aging population, and may aid in shortening the duration of respiratory tract/bronchial infections [6,7]. When colds lead to excess mucus formation, NAC may help to thin mucus for easier expectoration. In terms of medicinal herbal ingredients, elderberries have long been used in traditional, natural remedies for colds and flu. Observational and clinical studies support this history of use, as elderberries have been scientifically linked to a significant reduction in the duration and severity of colds and flu-like symptoms [8]. There may also be preventative benefits to taking elderberry before extended air travel. One study noted a significant reduction in both severity and duration in colds in those who supplemented with elderberry before and during trips when compared to a placebo group [8]. Elderberries also contain a variety of nutrients ranging from various vitamins (A, B1, B2, B6, B9, C, and E), trace elements (such as Cu, Zn, and Fe), minerals (such as K, Ca and Mg), and phytochemicals (such as carotenoids, phytosterols, and polyphenols). Andrographis or A. Paniculata (Burm.f.) Wall ex Nees (Acanthaceae family), also known as nemone chinensi, or Chuān Xīn Lián, has traditionally been used in Chinese herbal medicine and ayurvedic medicine as an antipyretic for relief from the severity and duration of common colds, alleviating fevers, coughs, and sore throats [9]. Studies have shown that A. Paniculata has also been effective against avian influenza and human influenza viruses, in vitro [9]. What are the Suggested Uses for Acute Immune Boost?
- For a short-term, but highly potent boost to the immune system during times of seasonal or environmental viral threats.
- Supplies andrographis and elderberry in research-backed amounts for acute immune support.
- Aids in the protection against viral damage and lost productivity by supplying needed nutrients for optimal immune response.
