Description
What’s the difference between Vitamin K and Natto K2 in this formula?
Osteoprime® Ultra contains MenaQ7™, an exclusive, patented, highly bioavailable form of Vitamin K2. Research has shown that it enhances calcium absorption and bone building function.* In fact, one study compared the bioavailability and absorption rates between vitamin K2 and vitamin K1. For six weeks participants received either vitamin K1 or vitamin K2 (as menaquinon-7). Researchers then compared the levels of blood levels of vitamin K in both groups. They found that the participants who took natural vitamin K2 had much higher blood levels of vitamin K compared those receiving vitamin K1.* Osteoprime® Ultra provides a balanced combination of important nutrients to support arterial health and maintain healthy bones.*
Why so many types of calcium in this formula?
Simply put, more forms of calcium ensure more complete availability in the body. Each calcium salt—that is, each calcium attached to a different mineral—offers differing quantities of elemental calcium. Elemental calcium is the “bottom line” amount of calcium you absorb from food or a supplement. And while some calcium/mineral combinations have more elemental calcium than others, they’re not always easy to absorb. For example, calcium lactate is about 32 percent absorbed while calcium citrate is approximately 30 percent absorbed. Tricalcium phosphate is an important addition to the formula because is the most prevalent form of calcium in human bone.
Why does Osteoprime® Ultra contain MK7 rather than MK4?
Osteoprime® Ultra contains exclusive Natto K2 in the form of MK7 (methaquinone 7). MK7 is much more bioactive and bioavailable than MK4. However, MK4 has been shown to have very high benefits in high doses. The MK7 in Osteoprime® Ultra can give the benefits needed in a smaller dose, and thus why it is easily put into a bone health supplement.* Dr Alan Gaby, the co-creator of Osteoprime® Ultra, states the following in regards to MK7 vs. MK4:
- MK4 is used in Japan in very high doses (45mg/day) for bone health support.*
- In studies MK7 in small doses had improved benefits in regards to bone health, whereas large doses of MK4 were needed.*
- Long-term safety has not been determined with MK4.
- MK7 has a longer half-life (it lasts longer in the body).
- MK4 in small doses is of no significant value in helping to support bone health.*
MK7 is the only form of vitamin K2 that is likely to have a beneficial effect when used in small doses.*
Can you tell me why the calcium products don’t mention that they need to be taken with food? I’ve heard that food improves absorption.
Calcium absorption varies based on many things, including the form of calcium as well as the presence of food in the digestive tract. While some research suggests that absorption might be a little better with food, it is not necessary to take calcium supplements with food to receive health benefits. If an individual has a sensitive stomach, we do recommend taking supplements with food to lessen the chance for stomach upset.
